Ercol Windsor Utility Chairs

Shopping for something for an Ercol restoration project, (of which more another day), I came upon a couple of these. The original 1944 pattern Windsor utility chair still in service for shop customers wishing to rest their legs. Note the no 290 mark and trademark sphynx transfer.

  1. Hello, I would like to strip the varnish off an elmwood windsor chair...and perhaps wax it?

  2. I would very lightly sand the varnish and crud off, Danish oil then leave 24 hours before using a liquid wax like wilcos Coloron wax. Then leave a further 24 hours before lightly buffing. 2 generous coats of Danish oil into all the npoks and crannies. Foam block sandpaper too. Enjoy, I certainly do!

  3. Hi, I have a couple of side tables with an Ercol tag. How do I know if it’s an original?
